The Story of Stuart Murray
Sometimes a song begins with a story someone shares.
Other times, the story has been waiting quietly for years — simply waiting for the right moment to come alive again.
Recently, I had the pleasure of working with Stuart Murray. What began as a request for a custom love song soon turned into something even more meaningful.
A Song for Nan
Stuart first contacted me with a heartfelt story about his wife, Nan — the unconditional love and support she has given him throughout their life together.
From the memories he shared, I wrote and produced a song titled:
Nan, A Gift from God
It’s a song about gratitude, devotion, and the quiet strength that love can bring into a life.

The Story Didn’t End There
After receiving the song, Stuart reached out again with something different.
This time, he shared lyrics he had written many years earlier.
As a teenager, Stuart had written a song for a play he was creating called “Pinesap.”
In the story, a young prince of the forest named Pinesap falls in love with a young woman named Juniper. They care deeply for each other, yet they are uncertain about what the future might hold.
Still, they are grateful simply to be together.
Like many stories, there is also a villain who tries to intimidate them into separating — but love proves stronger.
Over the years, the song continued to evolve.
In the 1980s, Stuart’s living-room band, The Buzzard Brothers, even performed their own country version. Decades later, he adapted the lyrics again for a musical he wrote in 2014 titled Bullied, where the song appeared in a new form called “We Have You by Our Side.”
Yet the heart of the original song remained.
When Song Lyrics Come Alive Again
This time, Stuart’s original lyrics come alive again in the song:
I Have You by My Side

What struck me most about Stuart’s story was how this song had quietly followed him through different chapters of his life.
It began as a teenage idea for a play.
It lived on through a band performance in the 1980s.
It was adapted for a musical decades later.
And now, many years after it was first imagined, it makes a comeback.

Songs Don’t Expire
Ideas written years ago can still carry the same emotion and beauty when they finally find their voice.
Sometimes a melody waits patiently.
Sometimes lyrics sit quietly in a notebook, a binder, or an old computer file.
And sometimes all it takes is the right moment — and the right collaboration — to bring them to life.
If you have words that have been sitting in a notebook or a folder for years, they may already be closer to becoming a song than you think.
At MyAirSongs, we help transform personal stories and written lyrics into fully produced songs.
